Highlights for the Week of 10-16th March 2019

Stand tall, proud and lift your weights

The best part of my day today was chatting with my sister online. She lives in Georgia USA and I’m over here in Australia but because she works nights, I often chat with her just before she goes to bed and I go make dinner. We’ve been doing this regularly for a few months now and I’ve really come to look forward to spending a few minutes a day with her.

Adelaide Cup Day

I was deep in throes of Monday-itis and genuinely not feeling well when I realised… it’s a public holiday today. I didn’t have to go into my office at home and work. I could stay in bed all day and read or sleep! Of course, I eventually got dressed and I got my 250 steps every hour to keep myself and my Fitbit happy and as the day progressed, I got more physically active and started to feel a bit better both physically and mentally. I did some computer stuff that wasn’t completely work related – I’ve been wanting to set up an app and I did that, but the real highlight was just getting my little “8 of 8” animation from my Fitbit. 250 steps every hour, all 8 hours that I set myself up to do. It’s not a big thing, but it’s so easy to lose track of time and forget.

This morning I took an older friend to a hospital appointment so he could get some pain relief in his back (he endured 6 cortisone shots in the spine – OUCH!). When I took him home, I came in and had a lovely visit with him and his wife. It was really nice to take a break and enjoy time with friends.

Today had a couple of highlights. For the second day in a row I woke up after having a real full night’s sleep – each night I only woke up once in the middle of the night and it was lovely to wake up feeling refreshed. A girl could get used to that!!

My sister in law in Michigan had a preventative bilateral mastectomy yesterday – meaning both sides were removed. We have had many ups and downs over the years but have really bonded since the loss of my husband and this, her decision to deal with such a scary issue that runs in her family. I had breast cancer 18yrs ago so she’s been asking me a lot of questions and I’ve answered as best as I can. She sent Email this morning about how her night had been so I had my first cup of coffee answering her mail.

The rest of my day was filled with work and time in the gym, and it just seemed like everything flowed so well because of the actual restful sleep I’d had last night. I like that even on days when I don’t go anywhere, I’m still having busy, satisfying days. I still have moments of thinking about, and missing my husband, but I talk to him pretty much all day, which makes me feel we’re still connected, he’s right here in my heart with me. I sure do miss him though.

Today’s highlight was a phone call from a business I’ve been dealing with for many years. I made a comment while ordering that I just knew the rainbow ones would go fast. They called to find out if I’d like to switch my order from what I had to a rainbow one they found they had. Boy did I! That really gave me such a smile.

I can’t help it. I’m a geek. Once I start on a project, I like to see it all the way through. Today I assured myself that my backup system is working for backing up the websites that I host to an offsite location. When I moved servers (was that last week?), this quit working so I had to go in and make changes. I’m pleased to say all of the hosting client sites and my own are well and truly backed and will be on a weekly basis (without my having to intervene).

I also worked on changing a contact form for a customer that was getting a lot of spam from the form. Fingers crossed it does the job.

But the real fun was getting in 40 minutes of strength and balance training. Today made for 7 days of being active – not all of them in the gym though. It’s amazing how much of a cardio workout you can get on ‘bin day’ when you run around the house emptying trash bins and taking the lot out the kerb/curb!!

Tomorrow I hope to be able to have a walk by the sea again since it’s Sunday. I was having a problem with my toe on the left side last week. This week it’s on the right side. Ugh! I have osteoarthritis and my toes are becoming mangled. It’s like I’m stepping on one because they overlap each other. Anyway, tomorrow might be better in that regard and I may just go anyway because the ocean breeze and waves are good for the soul.

How was your day?

Cheers!

11Feb23 Lunch Group at the Mt Compass Hotel. This was the Fish Platter and I couldn't finish it. I took what was left home and had it for my dinner. It was really good. I even took Per's salt & pepper calamari home too! We plan to return as everything was lovely - the food AND the service. @MtCompassHotel #2023pad #lunchgroup #lunch #MtCompass #mtcompasstavern #fishplatter
10Feb23 My Pink Tigger! The pink is from my nightlight, which makes everything pink when it's bright when I first come to bed and it slowly fades to very dim through the night. But isn't GaliLEO so cute stretched out and about as conked out as you can get? #2023pad #catsofinstagram #pinkcat #sleepingcatsofinstagram
9Feb23 I thought I had possibly broke my arm, so got a ride to the hospital to get it x-rayed. It wasn't broke (phew!), but it was badly sprained. The day before I had, for 10 full minutes, stood at my boxing bag and beat the heck out of it. That didn't help - so I had muscle soreness from that, but then I was carrying a water reservoir from my dryer and bumped into a wall, wobbled or otherwise was carrying it awkwardly, and that's when it started really hurting. The dryer is self contained (no vents), so I have to drain the water that it removed from the clothes, when I'm done washing for the week. #arm #fracture #hospital #sprain #2023pad #dryer #wobble
