Today I had the bone densitometry test at the Repatriation Hospital. The Repat is a veterans hospital, but has since taken on the aged, infirm and those needing rehabilitiation (such as after strokes) as there aren't all that many veterans to serve these days.
I was told it'd be a $29 fee but after we got there, they said whether or not I'd have to pay a fee depended on the results of my test. That's really weird as I can't think of any other medical test that bills that way. It was an easy test, and when I went to pay they told me I didn't have to pay anything and let me know the results will be mailed to my GP. Since I've never heard of payment depending on the result of ones test, I had to come home and look it up:
A MEDICARE REBATE is available where the presence of osteoporosis is either known or strongly suspected. The rebate is also available where the patient may have bone loss associated with a variety of medical conditions including chronic liver disease, chronic renal failure, proven malabsorptive disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, amenorrhoea lasting more than six months before the age of 40 and primary hyperparathyroidism, or long term steroid therapy.
Aww, swell. We'll just wait and see. My GP gets the results next week.
Aside from that, It's been a quiet day, and I have again been taking it fairly easy. I do feel a bit better today than I did the last couple of days.
