We took a weekend for ourselves late January early February and spent the weekend in the Goolwa/ Victor Harbor area. We stayed at a nice place with a spa bath and had some nice adventures. The photos on this page are from Friday afternoon and early evening.

On the way to Goolwa... only about 45 minutes or so from Reynella. |

Mt. Compass area. As is typical for this area, it drizzled on us while we were driving though. |

Welcome to Goolwa |

Rod enjoying the bubbly we were given on arrival. This is outside our hotel room, on the balcony. It was a non-smoking room, so we moved outdoors. |

I enjoyed a bit of the bubbly too. I look as though I'd already had some, but I hadn't really. |

Our view from the balcony. The one thing I missed was the church, which would have been just behind the car in the shot. |

After we finished the bubbly, we wandered off to have a bit of a waking tour/pub crawl through Goolwa. This is the pool we never did get to enjoy at our hotel. Rod took the picture from just outside our hotel room door. |

Vet's office. My sister works for a vet in Ohio, so figured I'd take a photo of the local small town Vets office for her to see. Hi Diane! |

My other sister works for a large hotel chain but not this one. Sorry Sis! Our room was on the second floor to the right of the large sign. |

Our first stop on our walking tour was Encounter Coast Agency which is run by our friend Vicki and her daughter. This is the outside of the shop |

Another piccie of Vicki's shop. We actually took these pics for the ECAgency.com.au website and want for her to be able to see both pics so both are here. |

L to R: Me, friendly customer, Mel, and Vicki. This pic reminds me of the pics in the back of my H.S. yearbook of local sponsors. I also used this pic for the ECAgency website. |

Vicki's grandkids: Jordan and Sammara. Jordan later took a few snaps of us and did a really nice job too. |

Gaelyne and Rod, taken by Jordan. Great piccy! |

Gaelyne, Sammara and Rod, taken by Jordan. We had to come down to Jordan's level in order to get Sammara in the picture too. |

Rod in front of the MV Aroona on the wharf in Goolwa. |

Looking down the wharf, towards the Hindmarsh Island bridge. Rod's doing some window shopping. |

Another view, showing the old steam boat that still uses wood. Opposite is a little restaurant and the round galvanized thing is a rain water tank. Very common in Australia. |

Looking down the wharf in the opposite direction (away from the bridge). |

Hindmarsh Island Bridge. This bridge is relatively new. Up to a few years ago, the only way to get to the island was to take a ferry. Our friend Vicki lives on the island, about 5 miles in. |

Railway Superintendants Cottage. This cottage is near the wharf area. Apparently it's now a radio station. |

I was really impressed with the lovely garden. |

At the RSL club, Vicki's other half David relaxes after a long day. RSL is similar to the VFW halls in the states. We met David and Vicki here after they finished work for the day. |

Vicki and I having a good natter. We rarely get a chance to have a good chat so this was really enjoyable. Rod and Vicki walked over to the wood fire Pizza place and ordered our dinners and walked back to wait until they were done. When I went with Rod to pick up our order I was suprised he'd only bought one very small pizza. We walked half a block towards the hotel and turned around to order another.
