Aussie Citizenship

These photos were taken as part of my Australia Day citizenship ceremony on Australia Day, 1999

The day started out with an Aussie Breakfast provided by the City of Onkaparinga. It was really almost too windy for it, but it was nice.

As well as Rod, Vicki Crawford and her friend Peter were my invited 'family members' for the breakfast and ceremony.

Speeches. His Worship the Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga Ray Gilbert presided over the ceremony. We were told Onkaparinga had the largest number of citizen candidates in the country. There were about 74 of us.

We were called up in groups of about a dozen to repeat the pledge (or oath depending on what we'd put down on the original application forms).

There's a picture of the Queen behind me.

Receiving the certificate. I was very nervous!!

A new Aussie citizen. G'day Mate! We were given a plant and an Aussie flag as part of the ceremony.

Because there were so many of us, we were asked to take a group photo for the Advertiser newspaper.

I'm behind the flag - literally!

I'm still behind the flag. :-)

Posing with the Lord Mayor, Ray Gilbert

It's customary to have photos taken with the Mayor.

Gaelyne and Vicki. Outside, after the ceremony, Vicki had gifts to share with me.

Aussie gifts. After piling me up with a genuine Aussie Damper (a type of bread), a Koala with a Koala road sign, a big jar of Vegemite, and a package of lamingtons, I could barely hold it all.

It's also traditional to pose outside (your first Aussie steps on Aussie soil) and the backdrop is the City of Onkaparinga council office.

Wow - what a day!
My personal heart felt thanks to the City of Onkaparinga for making it a very special and memorable day.
