Radiation Planning Session

5 April 2002 - Continuing my effort to be able to show what various treatments I'm having looks like, this next section shows what my radiation therapy sessions will be like. These photos were taken during the planning session where they make templates for the machine so that the amount of radiation (electrons in my case) and the location are set.

I'll be going in every day Monday through Friday from 8 April to the 10th of May to have this done. It normally takes only a few minutes. The longest time being getting changed into the gown and set up so I'm positioned exactly where I need to be.

Radiotherapy Planning Session #1
Radiotherapy Planning Session #1 Initial set up. The strap on my elbows is there to help me keep my arms out of the way, and even though it looks uncomfortable, it isn't too bad. The red cushion is for my knees so I'm not quite lying flat on my back. In this shot, they use the machine above (as well as laser lights above it) to line up where on the table I need to be, and where they need to position the machine.
Radiotherapy Planning Session #2
Radiotherapy Planning Session #2 The machine is positioned and ready to beam electrons at me. You can see one of the little tatto marks on my chest. The bruise on my elbow isn't anything serious, it's just a mozzie bite that I scratched, and the chemo I'm on causes me to bruise easily.
Radiotherapy Planning Session #3
Radiotherapy Planning Session #3 Another view of the machine ready beam electrons at me. It shows how the machine is tilted, and there's another part of the machine on the other side of the table.
